Mosaic Shower Insert

Artist Nona Carr has recently completed a mosaic shower insert for a young child’s bathroom.

The concept for the mosaic was an eclectic collection of iconic images rendered in adjacent frames, similar to my Mosaic Door project.

Nona said that she decided which images to include as she worked from left to right. The only thing that she knew about the design at the start was that each iconic image would be bordered in black.

Direct Method

This mosaic was made directly on the concrete tile backer board (the direct method).

Grouting

Nona grouted the mosaic before installing the insert as a panel.

Iconic Images

Nona’s mosaic is made up of individual iconic images, including the kitty Lucy.

Amazing Discoveries

Here is a photo of a sweet little doodlebug discovering a picture of her kitty Lucy in the mosaic. Isn’t it amazing showing art and science to children?

This is a unique piece of artwork that is inspiring. I am eager to try this method. Your work is delightful and impressive due to the simplicity of each image, but together is an elaborate piece of art.

What a beautiful piece. Is the panel inserted into the shower wall or is attached on top of the shower wall? If it is on top of the wall then I would like to know how the edges finished.

  It was built into the wall when the rest of the shower enclosure was tiled.
